The Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club

The Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Club at ISB aims to inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit in the students. One of the most popular clubs at the school, EVC typically has 40-50% of the class as its members. It facilitates interactions with entrepreneurs / industry experts and the approx 400 ISB alumni who are running their own ventures. An immensely active club, the EVC organizes various events all year round. Some of them are outlined below:

Key Events

Campus Tycoons: Campus Tycoons gives ISB students a firsthand taste of entrepreneurship. A week long competition, Campus Tycoons involves five teams on both campuses battling it out to be the “Tycoons”. Each team starts with a capital of Rs.1000 and the one with maximum profit at the end of the competition wins. There are winners for innovative idea and marketing too.

Matrix Million Dollar Challenge: The EVC club along with the Business Technology Club organizes the Matrix Million Dollar Challenge where the winners are given a seed funding of $1 Million from Matrix Partners. The event gathers huge interest from ISB students, alumni as well as entrepreneurs from outside ISB (non-ISB participants are also allowed).

Speaker sessions: EVC organizes various speaker sessions throughout the year inviting various known names. The 2015-2016 students had the opportunity to meet some popular personalities such as Neeraj Arora, Business Head at WhatsApp (ISB Co2006), Ankur Warikoo, Co-Founder & CEO, Nearbuy (Groupon) India (ISB Co 2006), and Umang Kumar (President, CarDekho.com & CEO, Gaadi.com (ISB Co2006). The sessions are remarkably engaging and serve as an inspiration for budding entrepreneurs at ISB.

New initiatives

Change the Status Quo: Change the status Quo was an initiative taken by the EVC club of class of 2016 at the Mohali campus. A weekly session, Change the status quo provides a platform to discuss the dynamic world of start-ups and helps budding entrepreneurs understand the startup ecosystem better. The baton has now been passed on to the class of 2017 to keep the engagement levels going and help produce more entrepreneurs from the ISB community.

VCIC:  The finals of the renowned Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) for India were held at the ISB’s Mohali campus in March 2016. The competition hosted 5 teams from top B-schools including IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and a team from ISB too. Established in 1998, VCIC is a leading B school competition run by the Kenan-Flagler School of Business, University of North Carolina. The club managed the entire event, helping cement ISB’s place as a global school in the Asian region.

GSVC: The EVC also organized the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) which was held at the ISB’s Hyderabad campus in March 2016. The oldest social venture competition organized by the Haas School of Business, GSVC has ISB as its partner in the Asia-Africa region. The GSVC provides aspiring entrepreneurs with mentorship, exposure, and $50,000 in prizes to transform their ideas into businesses that will have positive real world impact.

The EVC club is undoubtedly one of the most engaging clubs at ISB.
