The fifteenth anniversary of ISB was celebrated by a very special guest- the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. The President had much to say about the quality of higher education in India and the importance to take risks and innovate. He stressed on the dire need for educational institutions to create a conductive environment for students to excel so they can become job-givers and not job-seekers.
He spoke about the importance of management graduates in a developing and industrializing nation like India. The focus of educational institutes should not be on expanding its infrastructure but generating competitive graduates who are employable. By 2030, he said, India would have the largest youth population in the whole world. This presents an opportunity to enormous wealth, provided they are trained and educated well, failing which, would lead to a demographic disaster. He congratulated Adi Godrej and his associates for establishing an atmosphere learning at ISB.
After interacting with a large group of students, alumni and faculty, he was also able to spend some time with the board members. You can watch the full version of the speech here.
